The paper explores one of the most critical topics today - sustainable development, which means development in economic, environmental, and social terms. The longterm global economic development, aimed only at profit maximization and cost minimization and with no other undamentals, has led to severe degradation of the natural, social, and even spiritual environment. The article takes a theoretical
approach, namely an analysis of the creation and development of the concept of sustainable development. It analyses 17 goals, on different levels, whether global, regional, and national, as an opportunity to protect and improve people's lives. The objectives within each goal
may also be intertwined with each other. There are many limits to the transition to sustainable development, even on the part of businesses.
The practical part of the research focuses on the Naftogaz company. It is an example of how business in Ukraine may influence its development in economical, ecological, and social terms. As far as Ukraine is concerned, perspectives and preconditions for the development and inclusion of sustainable development in the country's life are being created. To achieve sustainable development goals in the country, the active participation of the government, businesses, and residents is required.
